JUNE 16 to AUGUST 15, 2025 ~ Running for Oregon Community College Students (ROCCS)

This summer, Clackamas Community College President, Dr. Tim Cook, took on an incredible challenge to support community college students in Oregon. Dr. Cook ran to each of the 17 community colleges in Oregon, averaging 32 miles per day, over 50 days, for a grand total of 1,500 miles all to raise funds for students’ basic needs, including food, housing, transportation, and emergency support.

The Fowler Family Fund was happy to donate in Dr. Cook’s honor to Blue Mountain Community College and to Chemeketa Community College. The ROCCS team raised more than $150,000!

AUGUST 29, 2025 ~ Benedictine Brewery

Gearing up for annual end-of-year raffle fundraisers, The Fund purchased a number of upcycled bags that were handmade and signed by Brother Lorenzo, OSB of Mount Angel Abbey. Each bag was constructed from a malt bag from the Benedictine Brewery which would have otherwise been discarded, and it will be paired with a gift card to the Benedictine Brewery and donated to some of our favorite charities. An upcycling enthusiast, Brother Lorenzo believes that everything has a purpose and can be repurposed!

SEPTEMBER 15, 2025 ~ HomePlate Youth Services

Ed Spradlin, a 79-year-young Vietnam Veteran remains our most favorite human being in the entire world! The Fund is proud to have donated 20 fluorescent safety vests featuring the HomePlate Youth Services logo to Ed’s growing team of volunteers! With his “can-do” attitude, five days a week and in the early morning hours Ed can be found hoisting bags full of Oregon recyclable bottles and cans into the Gresham Bottle Drop Redemption Center. Having served in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1970, Ed and his team have been supporting HomePlate since the Spring of 2025. Most recently, the team collected 74 bags of recyclables in a single day – a team record – that generated an estimated $750 in donations to HomePlate!

SEPTEMBER 16, 2025 ~ Homeward Pet Adoption Center

Since 2012, The Fowler Family Fund has enthusiastically provided in-kind and financial support to Homeward Pet Adoption Center and we are pleased to support a financial gift to HPAC for the purchase of a new x-ray machine for their in-house veterinary clinic. This new x-ray machine represents an important piece of medical equipment that will assist HPAC in their ongoing efforts to provide high quality health and medical care to more than 500 animals each year. Owning an x-ray machine reflects the growing need, organizational sophistication, and opportunity to improve operational efficiency and profitability, help HPAC meet modern veterinary practice standards, and improve medical clinic workflow!

SEPTEMBER 20, 2025 ~ Kristof Farms & Winery

Special thanks to Sheryl WuDunn and Nick Kristof for the warm welcome to Kristof Farms where they have converted 25 acres of beloved family heritage to focus on creating beautiful wine and cider. Spending a few hours on the farm, wine tasting, and nibbling grapes straight off the vine on a warm, late September day, the afternoon was capped off with them signing copies of their book Tightrope: Americans Reaching for Hope. This must-read addresses the crisis in working-class America while focusing on solutions to mend a half century of governmental failure and Sheryl and Nick tell this story, in part, through the lives of some of the people with whom Nick grew up in rural Yamhill, Oregon. You can watch the PBS America documentary here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zLYh82bEvf8&t=247s.

Guests at The Fowler Family Fund table for the October 16th Bradley Angle 50 year anniversary celebration were each gifted a signed copy of the book along with a bottle of Kristof Pinot Noir, and a bag of Hannah’s Gourmet Popcorn!

This inspiring event brought together a community of supporters to raise critical funds for their life-saving programs and the 600+ survivors and their children that they serve annually. Dr. Anita Hill highlighted a memorable evening fueled by testimonies of survivor resilience, rooted in celebrating their history, those that paved the way, and the thousands of survivors that Bradley Angle has served over the last 50 years!

Millie: Best. Dog. Ever.

“I didn’t get the dog that fit into my life. I got the dog that changed it.”

Designed in 2013 by Rachel Follett with Ironwood Design Studio, The Fowler Family Fund logo was inspired by Amber’s volunteer service as a weekend dog walker, and a financial and in-kind donor to Homeward Pet Adoption Center (HPAC). On May 27, 2012, Amber’s first day as a volunteer, and at precisely 10:03 am, she met Millie; her soon to be canine bestie. Prior to arriving at HPAC, Miss. Millie, a then-2-year-old Chihuahua Dachshund mix had a biographical history stating “she roamed the means streets of Yakima, WA”. Just 2 weeks after landing in Woodinville, Amber’s plan to simply foster Millie turned out to be a complete failure; and 72 hours after bringing her home, Millie adopted Amber! Yes, you read that right - Millie adopted Amber. After Millie settled into her new digs, during the work week Millie joined Amber at her dog-friendly place of employment where she hung out with fellow canines, routinely displaying small snippets of charm, mixed mostly (99%) with spice and diva-like ways. In October 2013, she and Walter, her newly adopted dog brother were cover models as part of HPAC’s annual calendar fundraiser! Millie passed away in December 2019 due to a heart condition, and along with Walter (who passed unexpectedly just 2 weeks later), they are both memorialized at HPAC with a Forever Friends tile.

“Millie changed my life in unimaginable ways, as did my volunteerism with HPAC. I respect and admire everyone there for their selfless contributions to improving the lives of the animals placed in their care. Miss. Millie truly deepened and expanded The Fund’s commitment to animal welfare.”

She continues to reside in the Pacific Northwest where she volunteers, fundraises, and advocates for a variety of nonprofit organizations. Amber draws inspiration from fellow philanthropists MacKenzie Scott and Melinda French Gates. Until recently, Amber served as guardian to Maggie, a vision and hearing impaired dapple Dachshund who passed away after living 19 adventure filled years that included a whole lot of Starbucks pup cups, Santa snuggles, and sandy beach toe-bean walks near Haystack Rock. Maggie crossed the Rainbow Bridge in August 2025 where we know she is with Carol, her hu-mom who passed away in late 2023.
